Location: Lincoln
Salary: £70-80k
ITSS Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a reputable Insurance specialist who are looking to hire a Lead Software Engineer to join their already impressive Development Team.
Overview of the role:
* To drive the design and build of business applications and systems based upon identified business requirements and provide technical leadership to fellow team members as part of a project or Scrum team, as well as acting as a mentor to junior team members.
* Reporting to the Software Development Manager to enforce the use of design patterns and coding standards in order to ensure that the defined architecture strategy and standards are delivered effectively through each and every project.
* Work closely with the infrastructure team to assist in infrastructure strategy planning and direction, and ensure an effective and fit for purpose implementation of software solutions for the business.
Key Tasks & Accountabilities:
* Leading the technical design of new systems and solutions in order to meet the requirements of the business in the most efficient and effective ways.
* Work to define software and infrastructure design principles and approved development toolsets and processes.
* Acting as the technical authority on projects and Agile developments to help guide the development approach and also to resolve issues that arise during the course of a project or sprint in the most practical way.
* Contribute to accurate and timely estimates for small changes and major projects with a clear articulation of the time, effort and cost associated with meeting the stated business requirements.
* Actively contribute to Scrum Team Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives for IT development projects.
* Ensure that technical issues are being surfaced and discussed, that lessons are learnt, and that there is a culture of continuous improvement across the development
team.
* Provide technical leadership and direction to 3rd party providers in order to ensure
that the services and solutions that they deliver are compliant, secure and performant and meet the requirements of the architecture strategy in the most efficient and cost effective way.
* Provide governance and oversight of all software and infrastructure development
ensuring that the necessary design standards and principles are adopted and
enforced.
* Work with IT Service Management to effectively design technology solutions
cognisant of IT service design and transition requirements.
* Ownership of technical artefacts, architectural baselines and keeping them up-to- date.
* Provide technical coaching and support to team members.
* Contribute to the development of technology roadmaps and architecture plans that
clearly document the current technology landscape, as well as setting out a clear and
pragmatic technology strategy for the future.
* Maintain a close dialogue with key business areas in order to help develop
investment cases that set out the business benefits of moving to new technologies.
* Keep appraised of key developments in the technology industry and ensure that
the IT and systems infrastructure are being appropriately refreshed in line with business needs.
* Work closely with IT colleagues, technology service providers and key business stakeholders to drive forward the technology and systems architecture strategy.
* Contribute to the definition of testing strategies, plans and scope, advising the test team of technical considerations and potential areas of complexity and risk.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Strong knowledge of technical architecture and design techniques, covering software and infrastructure architecture.
* Strong knowledge of c#, AspNet Core, Docker and Blazer
* Knowledge/awareness of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and relevant technology
components.
* Appreciation of TOGAF processes, particularly technology architecture, solutions and
implementation governance.
* Appreciation of The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), in particular
the Application Security Verification Standard (ASVS).
* Working knowledge of different mainstream project management frameworks and
software development methodologies, such as Waterfall and Agile, based on
practical experience.
* Good understanding of SCRUM principles.
* Good knowledge of logical security standards and best practices, especially ISO 27001 and PCI DSS.
* Appreciation of general cloud computing principles.
* Appreciation of FCA and DPA regulatory requirements.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact confidently and clearly with
business stakeholders and third parties.
Qualifications:
* Ideally degree educated or qualified by experience.
* Relevant Solution/Enterprise Architecture certification (e.g. TOGAF, Open CA)
* Minimum five years' experience of technical architecture and solution design as part
of a multi-functional software development team, preferably within financial services.
