This is working for a fast growing digital agency delivering high-quality web development, digital marketing, SEO, and online growth solutions to clients across a range of sectors.
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Technical Lead to take ownership of our WordPress development function, lead technical delivery, support client projects, and collaborate closely with both our SEO specialists and offshore development team.

The Role
As Technical Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, deployment, and ongoing optimisation of WordPress websites and digital solutions. You will act as the technical authority for web projects, ensuring best practice development standards while working closely with clients, account managers, SEO specialists, and offshore developers.
You will play a key role in translating business requirements into technical solutions, managing development workflows, and ensuring websites are scalable, secure, high-performing, and SEO-friendly.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
* Lead the WordPress development function and establish development best practices.
* Provide technical direction and mentorship to internal and offshore development teams.
* Review code quality and ensure adherence to coding standards.
* Identify opportunities to improve development processes, tooling, and workflows.
* Take ownership of technical architecture decisions across projects.
WordPress Development
* Develop and maintain bespoke WordPress websites and web applications.
* Build and customise themes using modern WordPress development practices.
* Work extensively with page builder platforms including Elementor, WPBakery, Divi, Beaver Builder, or similar.
* Develop custom functionality, plugins, and integrations where required.
* Ensure websites are responsive, accessible, secure, and performing.
Client Engagement
* Participate in client discovery sessions and technical workshops.
* Gather and interpret business requirements.
* Provide technical advice and recommendations to clients.
* Present solutions and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Offshore Team Management
* Coordinate and manage workloads across offshore development resources.
* Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance.
* Ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
* Support knowledge sharing and collaboration across distributed teams.
SEO & Digital Marketing Collaboration
* Work closely with the SEO team to implement technical SEO best practices.
* Support website migrations, redirects, schema markup, Core Web Vitals improvements, and site performance optimisation.
* Ensure websites are built with search visibility and user experience in mind.
* Assist with technical audits and implementation of SEO recommendations.
Project Delivery
* Manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
* Support project planning, estimation, and resource allocation.
* Troubleshoot complex technical issues.
* Ensure successful deployment and ongoing support of client solutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Extensive commercial WordPress development experience.
* Previous experience in a Technical Lead, Lead Developer, or Senior WordPress Developer role.
* Strong knowledge of PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and MySQL.
* Experience working with WordPress page builders such as Elementor, WPBakery, Divi, Beaver Builder, or similar.
* Strong understanding of WordPress theme and plugin development.
* Experience leading and coordinating offshore or remote development teams.
* Client-facing experience with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
* Strong understanding of website performance optimisation and security best practices.
* Experience working alongside SEO teams and implementing technical SEO recommendations.
* Knowledge of Git version control and modern development workflows.
* Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills
* WooCommerce development experience.
* Headless WordPress architecture knowledge.
* Experience with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF).
* API integration experience.
* Familiarity with hosting platforms, DNS, SSL certificates, and deployment pipelines.
* Experience with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Search Console.
* Understanding of AI-assisted development tools and workflow automation.
Sponsorship won't be able to be offered so you will need to have an independent right to work in the UK along with being able to commute to Stourbridge 2 / 3 days per week.
